Day 183. Half of the project year gone. It's a shock to me that after today I will have now worn the dress for more days than I have left to wear it for. It feels different, more urgent somehow. Not just because I want to reach $100,000 by January 10, 2013, but because their freedom hangs in the balance.
I have reached the half-way point of my journey, but for those who are in slavery, who knows how much longer it will be? For some, it may not end until they die. But we can change that. That's why I'm doing what I'm doing. Because they matter.
And in case you're wondering, I have a few fun ways to celebrate today, like dress-shaped cookies that have little black buttons and a pool party with my youth group tonight. But the very best thing? This week, I'm helping out with a camp at my church, and today is Messy Day. Our giant annual food fight. Yes, I will be participating. And yes, I will also change into something that isn't the dress for it. Because I'll probably end up looking something like that. And that was before the free-for-all.
I hope you all enjoy your day (and that it's less messy than mine...unless you'll be at camp, in which case I can't wait to sling oatmeal at you!).
