It came on one of my busiest weekends, but within twenty-four hours of bringing The White Umbrella in from the mailbox, I had finished it. It was gripping, beautiful, heartbreaking, and yet so hopeful. And as someone who wants to spend her life walking alongside the many who are sorting through the aftermath of sexual exploitation, it resonated with me so, so deeply. The White Umbrella goes so far beyond just telling stories. It is, indeed, a guide to walking with survivors of sex trafficking. I got a glimpse into the world of girls who shared how the Wellspring staff and volunteers had changed their lives but I also got to hear from the staff and volunteers sharing how the girls had changed their lives, too.
And it was amazing how these writers shared the darkness of the world of sex trafficking in light of the hope we have in Christ and the redemption that only He can bring. These people, they know about pain and sorrow and hope and joy and now, they’ve opened the door for us to know it too.
It’s a book that everyone should read. Teachers, parents, pastors, business people, creators, people who are breathing. All of us have a part to play in this battle. Whether your part seems big or small and no matter how much you know about it, The White Umbrella will challenge you, encourage you, shake you, and inspire you.
Be sure to check back tomorrow to find out more about Wellspring Living and the incrediblework that they do!
